Authorship Criteria

Humanities & Language: International Journal of Linguistics, Humanities, and Education (HUMANIOLA) is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and integrity in academic authorship. All authors submitting manuscripts to HUMANIOLA are expected to adhere to the following authorship criteria to ensure that credit is appropriately assigned and that all individuals listed as authors have made meaningful contributions to the research and publication.

1. Eligibility for Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual or scholarly contributions to the conception or design of the study; the collection, analysis, or interpretation of data; the development of theoretical arguments; or the critical preparation and revision of the manuscript. For conceptual papers and book reviews, authorship should reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the analysis, interpretation, and scholarly arguments presented in the manuscript.

All individuals listed as authors must have participated sufficiently in the work to take public responsibility for their contributions and must be able to identify which co-authors are responsible for other specific parts of the work.

2. Author Responsibilities

All authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the work and for approving the final version of the manuscript before submission. Authors must agree to submit the manuscript to HUMANIOLA and ensure that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Each author should be prepared to take responsibility for the integrity of the research and to cooperate in addressing any questions or concerns regarding the accuracy, originality, or ethical conduct of the work.

3. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the editorial office and all co-authors throughout the submission, peer-review, revision, and publication processes. The corresponding author is responsible for providing accurate author information, confirming that all listed authors have approved the submitted manuscript, communicating editorial decisions and requests to co-authors, and ensuring that all authors approve the final version for publication.

The corresponding author must also ensure that all relevant disclosures, ethical statements, acknowledgements, and declarations required by the journal are complete and accurate.

4. Author Order and Contribution Disclosure

The order of authors should be determined collectively by all authors based on their respective scholarly contributions and the conventions of their academic discipline. HUMANIOLA does not impose a universal authorship-ordering system, as conventions may differ across research fields.

Authors are encouraged to discuss and agree on the order of authors before submission. Where appropriate, a statement describing individual author contributions may be included in the manuscript or provided during submission.

5. Changes in Authorship

Any request to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be submitted to the editorial office with a clear explanation and written agreement from all authors involved, including any individual being added or removed. The editorial team may request additional documentation before considering such changes.

Authorship changes will not be approved automatically and are subject to the journal's editorial assessment and publication ethics procedures. Changes requested after publication will be considered in accordance with applicable publication ethics standards and may require a formal correction.

6. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

HUMANIOLA does not permit unethical authorship practices, including:

  • Guest or honorary authorship
listing individuals who have not made a qualifying scholarly contribution to the work.

  • Gift authorship
including individuals as authors merely because of their position, seniority, institutional affiliation, or personal relationship with the authors.

  • Ghost authorship
omitting individuals who have made substantial contributions that warrant authorship without appropriate justification.

  • Unapproved authorship changes
adding, removing, or changing the order of authors without the agreement of all relevant authors.

  • Misrepresentation of contributions
providing false or misleading information about the contributions made by individual authors.

Individuals who have contributed to the work but do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged appropriately, with their permission, provided that the nature of their contributions is clearly described.

7. Editorial Action and Dispute Resolution

If concerns arise regarding authorship, the editorial team may request clarification, contribution statements, written confirmations, or other relevant documentation from the authors or their affiliated institutions.

Where an authorship dispute cannot be resolved through communication among the authors, HUMANIOLA may seek guidance from the relevant institutions and follow established publication ethics procedures. The journal will not independently determine institutional employment, ownership, or contractual disputes beyond its editorial remit.

Depending on the circumstances, unresolved authorship concerns may result in a delay in editorial processing, suspension of publication, rejection of a manuscript, or correction of the published record where appropriate.

8. Compliance with Publication Ethics

By submitting a manuscript to HUMANIOLA, authors confirm that the authorship information provided is accurate, that all listed authors have approved the submitted version, and that any relevant contributions have been appropriately acknowledged.

HUMANIOLA expects all authors to uphold internationally recognized principles of publication ethics and follows the relevant guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in addressing authorship-related concerns.

The journal reserves the right to investigate suspected authorship misconduct and take appropriate editorial action in accordance with its publication ethics policies.
